FAQ

Is Nibblish OK for vegans and those with gluten and dairy intolerance?

All our fruits are great for people with particular dietary requirements.

Is Nibblish GM free?

We grew up around GM free orchards and that’s the way we like to keep things. Our fruit is also free from added sugars and sulphites.

Are your fruits OK for someone with a nut allergy?

Our mango, pineapple, apricot and cranberry are sometimes packed in a packing house that handles nuts on different lines. Our strawberry and banana come from fruit only facilities.

If you don’t use any sulphites or preservatives, how does Nibblish last so long?

We get asked this all the time! We are so used to seeing preservatives in food that we get a bit suspicious if they aren’t there!

When food goes off it’s usually because of the water in it. By baking the fruit at low temperatures we slowly lose the water and take the water activity levels down to stable levels but the whole of the fruit stays. By doing this in a clever way (which took a lot of burnt bananas to get right!) we can make pure fruit snacks without any nasty stuff thrown in.

The other stuff you will see on the shelves has likely been soaked in sugar water for a couple of days and through osmosis (remember your biology?!) the sugar goes in and water goes out. They then spray the fruit with sulphites to keep the colour in there. This can cause all sorts of issues for you like triggering asthma attacks and reducing your Vitamin B1 levels. That’s why our fruits have a duller colour but they are a whole heap better for you!

How do you store your fruit when it’s been opened? How long does it last?

Our fruit should be stored in a cool, dry place. While it won’t go off once you’ve opened it, we think it’s a good idea to reseal the bag to keep things fresh.

Why do your strawberries contain apple juice?

The apple juice is just there to make sure the berries stay nice and soft. We only use pure apple juice so no nasty stuff in there either.

Why is there more sugar per 100g in Nibblish fruit than in fresh fruit?

When we take the water out of the fruit it makes it much lighter. Depending on the fruit 80g of fresh fruit roughly equals 20-30g of baked fruit. Take our bananas for example – you get roughly 5 or 6 bananas in a 100g bag of baked banana. You probably wouldn’t sit down and eat 5 or 6 bananas in one go (unless you’re a little more monkey than the rest of us!).

Are your packs recyclable?

This really depends on where you live and what your local authority can do. We obviously have to be careful to protect the products and there isn’t a fully recyclable material out there yet which keeps things as we’d like. We do care a lot about the environment though and we make sure we do everything we can to minimise our footprint. For example our outer boxes are all FSC certified, we use sea freight rather than air freight for all our international orders and we’re working to be fully energy efficient in the Nibblish office with LED bulbs and solar electricity etc.

We can always do more though and we’ll keep working on it because we only have 1 planet and we need to do our bit.

I have an awesome store and we'd love to stock some of your snacks. Can I do this?

You bet! Send us a note at getintouch@nibblish.co.nz and one of the sales crew will reply.

I have another question, how can you help?

We understand, just drop us an email at getintouch@nibblish.co.nz and one of our lovely bunch (see what we did there) will be in touch.
